The documents themselves do nothing. There must be an authoritative body to back it up. First, there was a war. Army against army. The Declaration of Independence was written and signed. King George likely laughed... until the war was lost.

Then the new country needed a government, and a set of laws to establish authority. The Constitution was written to form a new government. Within that document is the establishment of a judicial system. This is a non-military authority to support and uphold the tenets of the Constitution.

The Bill of Rights was added as part of the Constitution and are the first 10 Amendments to the original document. They too fall under the judicial authority.

Additionally, when the judicial authority alone is unable to uphold the Constitutution, military type authority, such as National Guard units can be called in. When, under Constitutional Law and the Opinion of the Supreme Court, segregation was abolished, the state of Alabama saw the National Guard show up to ensure that black students were allowed into what was formerly an all-white school. The Judicial authority had spoken, but it took armed military authority to enforce it.

The combination of judicial and military authority guarantees certain rights for all. Without them, the document is just a piece of paper with print.

Please think this throughand put it in your own words. Research a bit more on just how the judicial branch of the government works. Find out from the Constitution under what circumstances military force can be used. This will give you an understanding of your own rights and protections as a U.S. citizen.

Also, KNOW the Bill of Rights in particular. There are only 10, but they are the basic rights of all Americans and everyone should know what their rights are.

Paper is just paper. It is the idea on it and the men behind that idea that give it it's power.

All man are created equal. The pursuit of happiness and so on. The more people like that idea the stronger it will become. The paper is just the symbol.
