take an old sheet and cut it up into strips. this will work just as well as the strips they sell in the store.

hint: apply the wax in the direction the hair grows. put the strip on the wax and then press down several times in the direction the hair grows. pull it off in the opposite direction. you should be hair free at this point. unless you are using a hard wax (most likely you are not) do NOT put wax on the same location twice. you will burn the skin.

to reduce redness and sensitivity, take a tums or rolaids (antacid) about an hour before waxing.

If you go to where you bought it and tell them it doesn't have the strips they may exchange it..

Other than that, the sheet idea works-if you don't have one they sell the wax strips at Sally Beauty Supply for cheap.
