Depends! Keep an eye on the temperature. Do some research on the fish you have in your tank to see what kind of temperature they require. Tropical tanks should not fluctuate more than 5 degrees up or down in a day. My tropical tank stays at 79 degrees. By having a heater, if it gets a little colder in the home the heater kicks on to regulate the tanks temperature to keep it more constant.

So just keep an eye on it, check it 5 or 6 times throughout the day and night and see if it fluctuates quite a bit, if it does, then get a heater! Get one of the ones that are temperature controlled so you can set it and it will do the work for you.

Not only do heaters heat the water they also help maintain a constant temperature. 78 is the ideal temperature for tropical fish and a fluctuation of a few degrees every day can cause tress related diseases (ich). in a nutshell you should have a heater to maintain the temperature.

Depends what you keep your house temp at. Florida does get chilly in the winter time. When I lived there, I only used them in the winter time, usually kept the house thermostat at about 72 degrees. Summer time I kept it around 78-80, unless of course there was a hurricane and the house temp soared up towards 90 for 2 weeks waiting for the electricity to come back on............

Yes because the temperature still fluctuates. A heater is meant to keep the water at a constant temperature.

Yes! A heater is made to keep the water at the same temp. constantly. Do you ever turn you air on, or open the windows? This causes the water to change temps.

Only if your house never get under 72 or so. That said it depends on the fish. Guppy, danio, minnows and like can take much cold temps.
