Food..
But for something specific the best thing in the world is air..think about it, but there is erm like the microwave, television..you cant deny life would be soo boring without it,

Children giggling. Not to be confused with laughing, which is not as heart warming. Multiply the effect by a million or so when it's your children and your fault.

For me it is definitely the Word of God.
But the Word is Living so it isn't a "thing".
I'll say the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
