"If you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't you get stuck in Iraq," Kerry said. Essentially, Kerry was saying that our soldiers in uniform joined the military because they didn't do well in school and the military was their only option.
He later backtracked and said it was supposed to be a joke about Bush. But Bush actually had a slightly higher GPA than Kerry at Yale, so he couldn't have been talking about Bush's academic performance.
One could write this off as a "joke gone bad", except for the fact that it is not the first time Kerry has insulted our military. Also, there is really no way to interpret that comment as being anything close to a "joke".
It looks like John Kerry just gave the GOP another free gift right before an election.

Even the "explanation" hastily offered by Kerry camp doesn't quite explain it. Sounds like another "I voted for the war before I voted against it" goof. Politics is rough, ain't it?

I dont believe it was a joke but I do agree with what he said......he was honest and most people cannot handle the truth they rather be in denial. Let breakdown what he said....."If you make the most of it and you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't you get stuck in Iraq," ....what he's saying that if you give yourself options then Iraq WONT be your only option. Which is the reason most soldiers join the army in the first place....Do they send recruiters to Yale, Harvard, Howard, etc. No they send them to poor communities, where people dont have much opportunity of a brighter future.
Kerry lost credit with me for the simple fact ...he back down and try to play it off as a "joke" when the fire got too hot instead of standing up and defending the truth. Knowing that Bush and his administration wanted any opportunity to jump on the Democrats to camouflage all the negative publicity the Republicans been getting for the last several weeks, Kerry should have stated his opinion very clear so that there would not be any misinterpretation.

My buddies and I had a great time last night. First, sharing our OUTRAGE at Kerry and the Dems.
Then, after some thought. We were REJOICING. Rejoicing that this is probably the best thing we could have hoped for. There are many good people who are Democrats. And good people WILL SEE THE TRUTH. And awaken to VOTE REPUBLICAN.
BTW. It just now came across the news that there is going to be a 'Demand of Resignation' of John Kerry. Also, a large group of military personnel are going to speak on the subject later today.
This one, 'ain't going away'.

I think Kerry epitomize what is wrong with the democratic leaders they are stuck in a time warp everything is negative. I lived during the Vietnam era and everything that the democrats says today you can superimpose on that that era. This party is in desperate need of new blood.

How can you possibly fall for the blatant GOP spin? Or are you just pretending he was insulting the troops and putting on a phony huffy attidue?
By the way, Kerry graduated from Law School. Idiot Boy Bush was turned down by the University of Texas Law School. They knew he was too much of an idiot.

There was one word missing: "us"
This was supposed to be the joke
“Do you know where you end up if you don’t study, if you aren’t smart, if you’re intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq. Just ask President Bush.”
Not a good joke, if a joke at all, I agree. But not a reason to change your vote, unless Kerry was running again. He isn't, by the way.

"Do you think that punishing troops who no longer want to be troops goes agianst "Support our Troops"? " Civilian "punishment" is not at stake. The Military is governed by the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) and is NOT something a person can just "quit", especially in light of an "ALL Volunteer Force"!

Dosent matter what he meant to say because he would not have said either of those things infront of a group of our troops or veterans, clearly shows how much the man panders to who ever he talks to
