I think because it might get confused with RGB- Red, Green, Blue

There's more than one color name that starts with a B. Black, blue, brown, burgundy, butterscotch, OK I'm reaching on the last two, but the first three are legit.

It's to prevent confusion in printing shops. In color printing done on a large scale colors are done in separate stages, mixing up the black and blue separations would be costly in terms of wasted money and lost business.

Specifically, Blac(K) is used to avoid confusing it with (B)lue in the alternate RGB system.

So you don't confuse it with "blue".

At least that's what this friend of mine who works at a local printers said.
