According to Consumer Reports the powdered works better. Personally I use liquid for the convenience.

Liquid, by far. But, it is a matter of personal preference. My husband prefers powder and says that I am paying for the water they put into the liquid.

However, when my kids were babies, I read that the liquid detergent is the only kind with rinses out COMPLETELY, verses the powder which can leave a residue. They recommended using a liquid all the time.

Both do the job. Powdered is way cheaper, and does fine for most things. Liquid I use on things like quilts.

I like powder just because you get more for my money and it does the same job. Some don't like the powder due to white powdery spots left on the clothes, but that's because they put their clothes in first and then sprinkle the powder on top. I normally start my washer, sprinkle the powder in and swish the water around then I put my clothes in the washer.

They both will work equally well if you follow the manufacturer's directions. Just remember that with liquid, you're paying for the detergent by weight or volume, and it contains............WATER! It's pretty silly to pay for something that you're going to add it do, isn't it?

i personally prefer liquid detergent versus powder.the powder has a tendency to not melt very well and leaves residue on fabrics, especially if using cold water.it saves energy so i use cold water on most things.

i think the powder is better, because liquid is not concentrated and it's already mixed with water, you could do more loads on the powdered one
