I'm not repeating anything anyone else said. I do have a mind of my own.

Your free to say certain things but if you stray off the script you'll soon find out how free the speech is!

As is often the case, questions such as yours, are from individuals who have never experienced anything other than FREEDOM.

As a writer, and speaker, I have made hundreds (thousands?) of speeches. Some commemorative, others political, all with a purposeful goal and intent to inform, instruct, and generally convince others of my views. TV, radio, live audiences, you name it.

The ONLY time I felt the freedom of speech slipping away was when I was in other countries - where free speech is quite often tolerated, but only to a point.

Freedom of speech depends on what your are talking about and when you are talking about.
The degree of tolerance on certain subjects by each country's government changes from time to time.
If you want to express your views on any social issues like social justice, women's rights, rights of minorities, equal employment opportunities, illegal immigrants or child abuse you have all the freedom to express your views openly. Nobody minds constructive criticism. You mentors will encourage you to broaden your knowledge and awareness.
America is a self-correcting country. Americans are very sensitive about their constitutional right of “freedom of speech”
But, when America was caught up in a 'paranoid' fear of communism during the days of “witch-hunting” by McCarthy in the 20th century, many intellectuals paid a heavy price .
If you say anything as an American which “violates national security” when your country is at war against the terrorists, just listen and read factual articles in Time magazine, Newsweek and other news media before you get carried away repeating what heard others say.

Ha, it seems that the answer to your question is, "Yes, there is such a thing as free speech, as long as you agree with a certain topic or group.... But, the minute, you have different opinions on something, you are torn to shreds in here!!

But ofcourse....especially in U.S. I believe that everyone in this country has the freedom to advocate for what is right and good for humanity. Now it doesn't mean that everyone will agree, or that problems will be solved in an instant. It's the perseverance, passion, hard work, and voice of the people that pushes others to think about what's happening around them.

We're a nation with lots of voices (i.e. organizations, community groups, etc.) and that's how people make the difference...or not. But either way...they still get heard by all of us!

In a sense, yes, anyone anywhere can say whatever they want. but that free speech can come with a price, because if someone else doesn't like what's said, there can be consequences. So the answer is both yes and no.

Try "preaching" atheism on a street corner in America and see how long it takes to get beaten up.

What do you think?

It depends on what you mean by "free speech." You cannot yell "Fire" in a crowded theater, for example.

Yes, but most misunderstand the word "free". You are AT LIBERTY to say whatever you want, but there might be a cost.
