Yes, I can. I was on the train from Florence, Italy, to Rome, Italy. An Italian man was trying to propose to me through fluent Italian, Spanish and very broken English. Quite cute. ;)

I don't know if this counts- but this convo was on a subway train here in Washington, DC. An elderly gentleman got in the train and sat next to me and after exchanging the normal metropolitan pleasantries, he noticed I was reading a miniature version of the Washington Post (called the Washington Post Express) they hand out at the entrances.

There was yet another article about the war in Iraq and he went on to tell me about his days growing up in Europe during WWII, and how his mother was a "go-go flapper dancer" and she would leave him and his sister in the home where lots of wayward single women lived to be cared for until morning by the ladies that exchanged sex for money. He said he learned more about panty hose and garters, lip and cheek rouge then he cared to know. He said that one of the women would bring he and sister some cinnamon bread and warm milk from the bakery, and how things changed when the nazis invaded. He described how afraid he was and how he needed to protect his little sister and mom.

He reflected upon that story like he could see it all happening again. It felt great to be in the presence of someone that actual lived what we read about in 5th grade history.

It amazes me what we can learn from strangers and at our core as people; we all share more commonalities than we know.

Thanks for allowing me to share. Awesome question! :)

Well, the last time I was on a train, I was about 4 and too young to remember. However, I was on the bus in Bangladesh when I was about to turn 11. There was this lady-- pretty large, scary, dressed all in black, etc. and she scared me. She just sat down next to me and I wondred, "WTH?" She asked where I was from and stuff, and like a good little girl, I answered, still wondering why she sat next to me and squished me into the corner...
Hehe... Well, nowadays, I'm much more polite and will give others my seat! :-)

people in London don't generally talk to each other, or even look at each other, to avoid getting into fights or getting hassled by people. I don't even make eye contact with people, let alone talk to them.
