He looked so dissapointed when I told him that they were a British invention.
Do you know of any other cases where these yanks think they invented the modern world?

I'm from the States.. and I agree it's sometimes funny to hear about the crap people in my country spew. A girl I went to high school with is hands down the biggest ditz I've ever met. Among the things she spouted were:

"So if Paul McCartney's a knight, why doesn't he wear armor anymore?"

"I want to live in Australia so I can have a pet koala bear, but I'm afraid the crocodiles would get him."

and, my personal favorite...

"If I go to France and ask for fries, they'll know what I'm asking for, right? Because fries are french.."

most military and technological inventions I think! My Uncle was a paratrooper for many years. You'd be amazed at the intricacy and intelligence of excellent work these guys do, and the achievements they make for Britain. But we never hear about them. The newspapers never get to hear of it. If it had been the yanks, it would be splashed all over papers of the world!

The English language. Television - invented by a chap called John Logie Baird in Hastings, East Sussex. Tell your man that we invented trousers, too.

Ok, thought of some more. The Industrial Revolution, Railways, the first Steam Engine (the Stourbridge Lion, made in my home town :D), Parliamentary Democracy, the Dreadnought/Destroyer class warship..the machine gun, the first Modern Army (Cromwell)

I once had a heated discussion with an american girl who wouldn't believe that american baseball evolved from british rounders until I showed her the proof on the net. She was devastated..........lol

I was once ask if we had the 4th of July in England. I told them yes as it would be stupid to go from the 3rd to the 5th.
