This website cites Robin Williams as having bipolar disorder:
http://www.bipolarworld.net/Bipolar%20Disorder/Articles/art1.htm
When Robin Williams came to prominence in the 1970s, bipolar disorder was called manic depression and the stigma was great. Remember, he played the shrink in "Good Will Hunting" and won the best supporting actor Oscar. A number of prominent psychiatrists and researchers have bipolar disorder. Sadly, like many people with bipolar disorder, Mr. Williams used substance abuse to mask the symptoms. Alcohol, as a depressant, does not do well in helping people in the manic phase. At some point in his career, maybe along with Jonathan Winters (who was also bipolar), Mr. Williams shared his diagnosis.

Yes he is bi polar. Yes he abused drugs that aided in his downturns. Yes his lifestyle of being a celebrity helped fuel his bipolar episodes. Yes we lost the funniest man in the last 60 years to a mental disease.

I've never heard about this. But I've watched an interview with him. He admits to having huge swings in his moods. He said it helps him in his career to do the kind of comedy that he is so famous for. But I never heard about him having Biplolar Disorder. It would explain a lot of things!

Is this true? I was taught and searched online before to find out if so, but he never has been quoted as saying he has it, I don't think. He has been quoted as saying he is dealing with alcoholism.
He is an incredibly funny and expressive actor.

i think his comedy routine is slightly manic, which could lead people to think he is bi-polar, but i do not think it is public knowledge that he suffers from mental illness - i suspect in private he is probably quite normal.
