My Husband and I got married on Halloween a yr ago yesterday because we love the Halloween spirit and the fun it brings (plus it was an easy day to remember!) and we had been in England for 4 years where it barely existed, much to our disappointment we had maybe 3 trick or treaters come knocking on our door! so i dont know what happend there! THEN... when we return to the states we were deeply saddend to see only 4 houses (not including ours) had jack o laterns and a few simple decorations out and not one trick or treater came, what is happening to Halloween? what can we do about getting the kids into dressing up and being able to go door to door without fear of them being taken or killed? what is this world coming to??

Congrats on your 1st anniversary, my neighbors celebrated their 25th anniversary yesterday also. As far as the trick or treaters, I know around here, it depends on the neighborhood you live in. Not much happens in our neighborhood, but I know there are two streets where "everyone" goes. It gets pretty packed there for the whole 2 hours of trick or treating. I remember when I was younger, my friends and I would go trick or treating for my birthday (which is Halloween). As far as the fear of them being taken or killed, just go with them, I won't let my kids go without me. It is sad however, that the holiday isn't as "Fun" as it used to be.

Halloween's tradition isn't about getting trick or treaters, it's about the spirits, people are acting more grown up all the time and even if they don't they want to be treated like an adult and so they thin they are too old for trick or treating.. that's why there is less and less trick or treaters..because they think they are too old for it and it's lame, but just so you know yesterday was halloween(all hallows eve) and today is all saints day(day of the dead) tomorrow is all souls day..the day to remember those who have died, this is the tradition, people just try to get something from it.

You know, I do believe people fear over getting their kids taken, or their stupid superstitious beliefs get in the way of their childrens happiness. Being fifteen, and brought up in a liberal environment, I got experience these joys and more when I was little. I think turned out better than those who where covered with pads, helmets, and reflective clothing. I don't believe the dangers of trick or treating have increased, just the press coverage. We need to let go a little. Protect children, but don't go crazy. And as for the spirit of Holloween, I guess lazy fat people have decided they are no longer gonna decorate or dress up to to give out candy. I believe we will apathize everything until nothing matters any more. No Valentines Day, no birthdays, and soon, no Christmas!

Halloween use to be one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. (Christmas is my favorite, of course.) I just got too busy and the day always seemed to get here faster and I wouldn't have the time or energy to decorate. My daughter is too old now. We have NEVER had one single trick or treater in the 12 years I have been at this house. It is sad though. It was quite fun decorating. I don't know why they don't do it much anymore.

I know. We only had 10 kids come usually we have a lot more. I think parents are scared to take there kids out because of all the weirdos out there. Our sheriff deparment put out a list of sex offenders and where they lived the day before Halloween so that might have had something to do with it.

I love Halloween. I wish it was the way it used to be.

It's come to the point where parents are afraid to let their children go outside. They take them to carnivals instead. We haven't had anyone trick-or-treating at our house in the past three years. There are just too many warnings of danger and church groups who say it's evil.

I know, its sad. I feel bad for my own children, who might not get the chance to trick-or-treat. I guess it is a mix of lazy parents, kids who think they are too cool to go out, and parents who are too scared to let their children out, with all the sickos out there..

Halloween was a fun, great thing when I was a kid .. but now, it is a bad, bad, bad, bad thing . They will probably outlaw it altogether in the next couple years if the Republicans and religious right stay in office much longer. Good Luck ! :)
