Knowlege management (coming from a business management senior) sound like the distribution of knowlege though a business.
This can be through Human Resources to employees, in the form of memos and a handbook. It can be upper management to employees lower down the ladder.
It could also take the form of "Public Relations" where there is a certain amount of knowlege that is distributed through them to the general public.
An example of that was the death from eating hamburgers a few years back from "Jack-in the Box" They managed the information to the media, and let the public know what steps they were taking to prevent this from happening again.
It takes place in the White House were they manage what they are saying about the war on TV.
Knowlege management basically boils down to having certain knowlege and how you manage that knowlege to those that:
1. Work in your company or business.
2. The public and how you want your business to appear in the publics eyes.
3. Sensitive information:
A. Gov't: Secret Service, The President, National Securtiy
B. Company secrets, like the recipe for "Coke"
Hope this helps.
It can even take place on an individual basis, what you "shread" at home so that your idenity is "safe" and nobody can take your information that you thow away in the trash and discard and possibly use it to make fake identification and then access your credit cards.

That's when all the gobbledygook you learn at bad schools mutiny against academic stupidity, get their whips out and lash you into rowing faster to the celestial shores of worthless degrees. Harder. Faster. http://searchcrm.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid11_gci212449,00.html
