Unfortunately, the first two answers are incorrect.

Not all of the alcohol burns off during the baking process; some remains behind. Since doctors do not know what amount of alcohol causes "Alcohol Fetal Syndrome," it's better not to have any food exposed to alcohol.

As long as the rum is in the cake before it is cooked it is fine, but some cakes are baked and then rum is poured over the cake, those types of cakes are not good for pregnant women.

A cookie or piece of cake will not hurt the baby or you. It's consuming it in large quantities that will do the damage. When I was pregnant with my eldest, I was told by the doctor to drink one glass of white wine every 2nd day to calm the baby down cause she moved non-stop and also to help with my own nervousness of being pregnant for the first time. She was fine at birth, and still is 15 years later.

You will be fine. I am a labor and delivery nurse - have been for 8 years. The amount left after cooking is so miniscule, it doesn't present a problem. If you ate a whole cake every day for the rest of your pregnancy...that may be different. A piece of rum cake = no problem.

Although some of the alcohol is cooked off in a rum cake, their is still some alcohol in it. You could probably have a little, but I wouldn't recommend more than a bite or two -- just to be safe. If you already ate it, don't worry. What's done is done and your baby will probably be fine.

It would be better to talk to doctors about it. When my sister was pregnant, she craved fish quite often. However, doctors say they should not have it more than two or three times per month at the most. There are things in fish that would normally be harmless to most adults, that can harm the baby. That's why it's not recommended to have it more than a couple times per month.

You might have been okay, but is it worth the risk? It's always hard to make sacrifices, but what you do while carrying a child can have long-lasting consequences. There'll be other chances after the baby is born.
Good luck with your baby!

My understanding is that the alcohol is cooked out of the rum leaving behind just the flavoring. But I think it is best that you ask your dr this.

If you ate it already don't stress out about it just ask your doctor by your next checkup if it's ok. Good luck.
