I don't think I would have because it sunk on its very first voyage. I'd rather not be a ice cube, thanks. But I like what the first person said about dreams aboard that ship. It just make me sick that they locked those poor people below... fat, rich BASTARDS!

The Titanic was a White Star Line steamship carrying the British flag. She was built by Harland and Wolff of Belfast, Ireland, at a reported cost of $7.5 million. The great ship, at that time the largest and most luxurious afloat It had a double-bottomed hull that was divided into 16 presumably watertight compartments. Because four of these could be flooded without endangering the liner's buoyancy, it was considered unsinkable.
Many of those who perished on the ship came from prominent American, British, and European families. Among the dead were the noted British journalist William Thomas Stead and heirs to the Straus and Astor fortunes. The glamour associated with the ship, its maiden voyage, and its notable passengers magnified the tragedy of its sinking in the popular mind. Legends arose almost immediately around the night's events, those who had died, and those who had survived. Heroes and heroines, such as American Molly Brown, were identified and celebrated by the press. The disaster and the mythology that has surrounded it have continued to fascinate millions.

One has to remember the time period involved and the style and manner of the population. The Titanic went out on its maiden voyage in 1912. This was a peaceful time and folks dressed up in their best clothes to go out. Alot has changed since 1912 and today. Me I would have liked to gone aboard the Titanic while it was on its maiden voyage just to observe the people, feel the onbiance of the time. Of course I would have wanted to gotten off the boat before it struck the iceberg.

If I had been alive then I'm sure I would have thought about it if I had even heard that it existed. The thought of taking a ship across the ocean is a little scary but I probably would have been jealous of all the rich people that got to go. I'm sure it never would have happened since I would have had to either be rich or living in Europe at the time. I'd obviously be glad I didn't go after hearing the news that it sank...

Yes, for sure! I'm such a history buff and I go through stages (Ancient Egypt, Victorian, etc..) and I totally went through a titanic stage where I read up so much and watched so much about it(coincidentally the movie had come out....1997) Anyway if it hadn't sunk it probably would have continued for many years and then eventually been honourlly retired ( I'm thinking the 1980's) but it wouldn't have gained as much attention because something else would've "beaten it" (longer/faster ship, airplanes..etc..)

Indeed I would. I have a persistent death wish. Every time I hear of a spectacular way to die I feel envy for those "lucky" folks. The Titanic fits the bill. As does the Challenger disaster, TWA 800, the Hindenburg, and of course, the WTC on 9/11.

I think that any one who answered like Iron Dragon should get the points, it sank on the first go around. Who would want to be on a sinking ship? Yeah it would be pretty but its not worth my life.

How did a ship have hopes and dreams? You watch too many movies.

It depends, I would love to have been on the ship to see it, it must have been something to see, but, i would have to have knowledge ahead of time to make sure I got one of the boats!

Yeah, back then it was a big thing. People were coming to "the new world". And a ship can have hopes and dreams, you just need to have a little faith.
