I'll just concentrate on the snake. I've dreamt of snakes quite a few times in my life. It isn't unusual for me to dream of a snake on a tree.

Anyway, it's a small, pretty snake with black and white diamonds on its back (not a diamond back species, just the pattern). The tree is stout, has a curvaceous trunk and curvaceous branches - kind of like an over-sized bonsai.

The interesting thing is this tree is on a tiny island on a beautiful, crystal-like lake. It's like a paradise.

I was supposed to camp there for the night, but I got tied up. My army buddies and I had to run and duck for cover as horse-sized, carnivorous theropod dinosaurs ran into our path! That's yet another story.

Sub-question: Any good ideas about the mythological aspects of snakes in dreams?

If you often dream of the same place that is significant and unusual. It means that you have an issue to resolve with that place.
The significance of the animal has to do with your perception of that animal. Snakes are usually seen being good hunters and in christian mythology they are a symbol of forbidden knowledge.
I think that anyone who dreams about dinosaurs should definitely learn about lucid dreaming (books by carlos castaneda are my suggestion) because it involves manipulationof teh time space continuum--the basis of time travel.
Bees are a symbol of fertility. Dragons are lucky in chinese culture.

i can only answer ur sub-qs. snakes in dreams represents a warning. some1 around u will stab u in the back, or u have a hostile person around. in india, if u tell an astrologer about snakes in ur dreams, they r likely to look up the snake itself--and then assess the extent of danger that u r likely to face. there is an attribute to each animal and plant life--like sly fox, poison ivy, etc...

so cobras wud mean that u may need to run for life; a krait wud mean that ur enemy is somewhere in the sorroundings, hiding with the enviroment; a beautiful speckeld snake wud mean that u may be lured to a beautiful place and then harmed.
also the kind of environment u see in the dream is important. forests mean very deep trouble.

look up the snake and the tree that u dream of. ur subconcious is trying to tell u something. all the best.

Snake dreams are not cool at all. Flying dreams!.. now those are cool. Seriously, it is common for people to fear snakes. You are likely in the majority. I have most of my life, but one day I came upon a rattlesnake in the mountains that rattled at me. I kept my distance, but stared at it and for whatever reason my fear went away, and I marveled at the little fella.... he was 4-5 feet long. I really believe that my fear was converted to a healthy respect for snakes. They provide a real value in the food chain...I don't like rodents! :) Btw.. at the moment, and don't ask me why, I have two snakes. They are pretty cool. You could have voted me least likely to ever interact with a snake. I also saved a five foot black snake off the road. Be at peace.
