My sister in law has a major head cold right now... stuffy/runny nose, swollen sinuses... ect. I want to put together a get well bag for her and I'm not sure what she can use. She has Sudafed but since she's pregnant she can't take it very often.
So far I've thought of Breath Right strips and some Pepperment Eucalyptus body spray to spritz on her pillow at night... does anyone know of anything that's okay to use for a cold while pregnant?

She's already talked to her doctor and knows some cold meds that she can take but she can't take them often enough to really do any good. She just looks so miserable with her red nose, that's a good suggestion to ask the pharmisist... I will do that.

I took tylenol cold when pregnant- she can also use natural oils- lemon, eucaplptus,RC- you don't take them internally- just rub it on your chest. Plus lots of OJ is good b/c of the vitaman C-

I am a labor and delivery nurse, so here you go...
Buy her some sudafed. When pregnant, she can take this and tylenol when sick with a headcold. I would go with the sudafed severe cold or sudafed sinus stuff, whichever more appropriately covers her symptoms. Also, visk vaporub, although quite smelly, on her chest or under her nose can open the nasal passages. I'll leave it up to you whether you think she can stomac the scent. :-P Good luck and tell her to feel better!

i am 25.5 wks pregnant and my son gave me that same cold so all i did was put vicks on my chest, back and under my nose and dealt with the rest which wasn't easy. i prefered not to take any medications except for tylenol a couple of times because i just don't like the idea of any meds going to the baby. good luck and i'm sure she will feel much better with plenty of rest and soup. she can also try eating something spicy to help open up her nose.

Saline Nasal Spray (make sure it's non-medicated) to keep nasal passages from drying out
Vick VapoRub (Menthol helps clear the passages)
Instant Chix Noodle Soup packets
Herbal Tea (non caffinated) - Lemon is a good one to use.

Hot tea - decaf, with fresh lemon and honey.
Hot showers to help her breaathe.
All sprays should be cleared with her ob/gyn doctor's office, even if it's the nurse at that office.
Sudafed is a big no no.....not for pregnant women and read all labels, and tell her doctor immediately!

Ask your wellness care professional. that's a extreme subject which you would be able to desire to examine with him/her. according to risk your particular subject warrants something distinctive than what's suitable for the popular public at an analogous time as pregnant.
