No offense meant but this Q should have been asked weeks ago. The process of everything involved at this point will certainly take longer than ONE week.

Sadly too, you have little time for originality, or comedic insertions in what I'll suggest.

It seems timely that a seasonal skit would be appropriate, and 8th grade students hopefully can pull it off given only a week to prepare.

I'd be working on a skit depicting the first "Thanksgiving" with the addition of comedic overtones.

Faux pas during the event can be highlighted, Turkeys can be substituted with canned Tuna,,, (Not yet conceieved of at the time) "HEY,, anyone got a can opener?" Repsonse,,,"UM what's a "can opener?" Etc. Etc. Etc.

I suspect,,,and again, without offense, you are brave, giving only a week to prepare.

I will offer one more option, which in fact could be the case no matter what you attempt.

Pick a topic, engage the students, and as a director, record in some way, the process of preaparing, by those who will act out whatever you choose.

Certainly this would work better if filmed, but think of it as a back stage peek into what it takes to do the OPENING NIGHT, to an audience, and have that as the overall theme of the skit.

All the good and not so good of creating performance art,,, and perhaps in the end, last scene, it can all GEL, and be enjoyed by the audience.

You might want to check out some of the Marx Brothers stuff. You could try mimicing a Groucho/Harpo/Chico/Zeppo routine from one of their movies. (Check the Internet Movie Database for some ideas).
Another idea might be to take something from a "Seinfeld" episode (like when they're at the restaurant or in Jerry's appartment). Obviously, this might require some doctoring because Seinfeld's stuff can border on and cross the line with sexual material.
Sounds like a cool assignment. Good luck!

One of the students wins a federal contest for science. The skit is about how the rest of the students perceives the prize winner in this new light. Yet the prize winning student hasn't changed and is still quite humble. Of course, this skit should be funny, the jokes of course is based on modesty.

Judging by your planing on using food I assume that props are allowed, so why not use the old 'chestnut' where you have a drawing of a bicycle. you start by trying to prop it up in several different ways, but of course it will keep falling down. Then you call your friends in one at a time to hold each wheel. once they are holding it up you then to pretend to phone the owner of the bicycle, saying something like "this is Joe's repair shop, I've got your bicycle fixed. All It needed were two nuts to hold the wheels.

Try Pygmalion. Its always a good laugh. Written by Geroge Bernard Shaw. I suggest the part in which Eliza visits Professor Henry Higgins at his house

How about the mishaps at the newlyweds first Thanksgiving...like trying to bake the turk with the packet still inside...grandma and grandpa can be the old fuddy duddies(burp and sleep afterwards)...the family pet can entertain the turkey...naughty little cousin(s) up to shananagans, the excentric aunt, the hip hop teenage sister/brother, mom trying to correct everthing, dad watching the parade/football game(not even sure of where he is), Drunk uncle, nozy neighbor, and the cops?.....................all lived happily ever after
