There many ways of doing this. When a business go out of business many times their stock is sold at Auction to liquidate debt. This a good way to buy items that are New. They may Auction in Lot Size, so you may have to bid on 5-10 MP3 players at a time (MP3 is an example), say they sell for $100, you may get them for $20 but have to bid on 10-50 at one time to do this.
Buy from the company, you need to be a Business. A sole proprietorship is easy and you Social Security number is your tax I.D. in most cases. To buy Wholesale you need your business license which you get from your State Revenue Office, if I remember correct. It just a paper you hang on the wall with your company name (Go to a small business and ask to see theirs and they show you) You send a copy of this to the Wholesalers you buy from so they have it on record. They sell to you wholesale and tax free.
There other means of obtaining products, this just a few. There really too much to be able to cover here.

Worldwide brands will charge you a hefty fee for a list that consists of "wanna-be" wholesalers & stale sites...and most that are on the list, are drop-shippers or people like you and I that are trying to break into the industry of buying and selling...or rather merely middle men. Out of a extensive list of so called wholesale suppliers maybe 2% are possibly usefull leads, if that. That being said do your home work before dropping big bucks for a list. To buy at the lowest possible price TRUE wholesalers will require you to buy in large quantities. If you run into a wholesaler that does not require any purchase minimums you probably are not paying the lowest wholesale price for the item, & when you look for that item on ebay per say, you will notice others listing that product for less than you bought from your so-called wholesaler. So how much of that item did they buy or did the steal it...? That is what you start to ask yourself. To increase your chances of success look around for a few niche products and stick with them.
Good Luck!

Many of the sales you see on Ebay are not done by independant sellers like yourself. They are an online extension of existing brick and mortar businesses looking to enhance thier bottom line. With this in mind, they obviously are using their own inventory (purchased at wholesale) to put sales on Ebay.
You can go to just about any manufacturer or distributor and buy product. Keep in mind that you may have to pay cash for the first order, and you may also have to order a certain level in order to qualify for wholesale pricing. You won't be able to order just one Widget from Widgets international, you may be required to purchase 12 or even 144.
Contact the company from which you wish to buy and ask for wholesale pricing catalog and also for any paperwork needed to set up a purchasing account. They will give you all the information you need.
Now there are some companies who will not sell to an online business. Enesco is one of them. Enesco will not send you a catalog unless you have a brick and mortar location. They will also pull your ability to sell online if they find out you are selling their product online. There are other companies like this, listed with the VERO program on Ebay.
