Written by Giovanni Boccaccio in a series of tales called the Decameron, similar to the Cantebury Tales, where a group of travellers tells stories to pass time. The Falcon is one such tale, where Federigo has a falcon that is his companion, and soon the only thing he owns. He's in love but his love is never returned, and slowly all his wealth and finances dwindle because of his lavish purchases and attempts to woo. The lady he loves comes to his house, and he has nothing to offer her as food, so he cooks his prized falcon. When she finds out, she marries him, and they live wealthy lives.
Personally, I wish the bird won :)
