I fully agree, but what choice do we have? If everyone stopped working tomorrow, the country would come to a seriously standstill. The benefits system would collapse, which would leave families, homeless, starving and struggling even moreso than they already are.
If there was another option, I'm sure many of us would opt for it...but there simply isn't. I believe that in a way prostitutes and drug dealers have the best jobs, because they earn good money, for little work, and they don't have to pay any out to the government, so can actually live the life they want to, without facing the worries and stress that the rest of us have to. But it's a case of whether doing something immoral is easier than just plodding along in the rat race.

Unless you can find a sugar daddy to put food on your plate and a roof over your head, you will have to work for these things. Actually, work nowadays can be interesting and fun; the number of things you can do to earn a living has never been larger than it is now. And, no matter what you do, if you do it well, you can take pride in a job well done and know that you have made someone happy by dealing with their problem.

you only just figured this out? Of course we are being conned - we all are. You included! Every minute of every day, we are being ripped off. It is because we are not important to governments - profits are. Money really is the root of all evil. We are forced to sell huge chunks of our most precious possession -our lives -to greedy employers. I work because I do not want to drop out of society. I thought about it, and my ex has done it. He lives in a bus and owes nothing to no one. He will never come back to conformity, and he is brave for doing it. But it just would not suit me. I do not want to rent, as I hate landlords having that kind of power over me. And I do not want to be old and freezing or starving which is what the fututre governments would let us all do, I am sure! So I consciously chose the legitimate way of life and bought my own house.

Exactly, I when I do work, I work for pleasure not money. 50% or 2 1/2 days a week is all I am prepared to work. I have always valued time over money, quality of life is all I care about. I'm also a little lazy.

Grapes of wrath sucks! I read 3/4 of it and ended up giving up because it just was descriptive of everything and was so....so....slow! Yawn. But, I agree to an extend about working-to-live, living-to-work. But I guess it depends what your expenditures are, if you are living it large on a basic wage then what do you expect? You have to have a lifestyle which allows you to have financial freedom.

the hunter gather spent 3hrs (on average) each day providing for himself and his family.
in the middle east, they invented civilisation (farming etc etc) now we worked 5 hrs a day to provide for our families.
industrialisation and we all worked 8-12 hrs days
where the progress.

So what is it when you love what you're doing so much you would do it for free? Does that mean I'm conning the employer?
