Christmas because it was actully the holiday of a roman god. Since the shepards were outside with the sheep, it must have been warmer than winter. Most historians...not just JW's... place the birth of Jesus more in the fall around late October or early November. Go to Wikpedia and read about the origin of Christmas or any encylcopedia for that matter.
As for Birthdays....since the only birthday mentioned in the bible is the Pharoe's (sp?)...they feel this celebration is also pagan.
Do a search on Birthday celebrations in an enclyclopedia and you'll see that the candles on a cake actually come from a pagan practice in which it was believed that wishing and blowing out the candles would carry your wish to the gods.
Easter falls under the same thing....rabbits were used or revered for fertility during a spring celebration and thus the Easter Bunny...
Any particiaption in these types of celebrations violates the "Put no other god before me" rule from the bible.
While I'm not a JW, I have studied them as well as other groups. I have to say...they truly practice what they preach. I think why they get such a bad rep is because they make hard choices that most of us can't or won't.
FYI...they also don't enlist in the military because it is not christ-like. Jesus taught to turn the other cheek and most importantly...to love thy neighbor.
I actually respect them.

They do not believe in putting anything above God such as birthdays & other holidays. Christmas 12/25 is not really Jesus birthday if you read the bible. They also do not believe in wearing a cross or worshiping a cross because Jesus was crucified on the cross, as a JW told me if Jesus died in a car wreck would you wear an symbol of a crashed car? I'm not a JW but some things they practice makes some sense to me.

i am a Jehovah witness and the reason we don't celebrate holidays is because of numerous reasons. such as thanksgiving, we believe that you should be thankful everyday and not just for one day. christmas, supposed to be ''JESUS BIRTHDAY'' on 12/25. Do we really know that? dose'nt matter! all people think about forreal is getting presents. holloween, come on, self explanatory!those are not the only reasons but thats some.

Well the reason they don't celebrate christmas is because Christ wasn't born in the winter because if you read your bible there was herds out mary and joseph went to a stable they followed the star and it sounds more like summer so they don't like celebrating something that isn't right

Well they don't celebrate Christmas because it is a birthday.
However the only reason I have ever found for them not celebrating birthdays is because they consider celebrating birthdays "unchristian". Which doesn't really answer the question.

Because they claim to be the only true religion. And they can't be the only one if they are just like all the rest. So they come up with weird stuff to make them different.
