You have to remember we are a small and crowded island compared to France and other places and there is simply less space to build roads and car parks. In simple economic terms the cost is what the market will pay. The less space there is the more it costs to put anything on it whether it is a house, a shop or a car park
Incidentally, the last time I had a parking ticket was in France because although they seem to let you park anywhere they catch you out every now and then and you have to buy some stamps from the post office and take them on a card to the local police station which is a real nuisance.

Don't get me started on this. I pay for a train station parking permit but there were no spaces this morning. Therefore I've had to park on the grass and I know I will get a parking ticket. I've telephoned the parking company and told them I WILL NOT pay the fine, what do they suggest for the lack of parking. They told me they suggest I don't drive to the station - my ONLY choice of how to get there. Maybe tomorrow, if there's a problem, I will ring my boss to explain why I cannot get in - don't think he'll understand somehow!

Yes most parking lots are privet. But way we pay for parking is simple. There are more cars on the road then parking.

It's just one of the many "rip offs"...and actually, not one penny of the road tax you pay actually goes towards road maintenance or building, it's just another form of tax...another reason I live in france now, where there is no road tax, MOT's last 2 years not one, and roads are maintained properly, cones are a very rare sight...and finally, most parking (although not all), is free

Yes I agree, but many car parks are private, but it's not fair when you have to pay parking meters, because we already pay to have our cars on the road.

I haven't heard of car park fees, but my understanding is that private parking garages charge fees because they don't receive public money from the transportation taxes.
