I think you should ask alpha_male, then pick his answer as the best...oh wait, you are already going to do that. Oh well, nevermind then.

Tropical fish should be fed 2 times per day. Feed them as much as they can consume in 3 minutes without any of the food floating to the bottom. Do not feed the fish as soon as you turn on the aquarium lights, wait a half hour and then feed the fish their first feeding. I would also suggest that you purchase a cory catfish and a flying fox to help consume the algae and inevitable extra food that reaches the bottom.

Do not feed them flakes.... it puts too many nitrates in the water.
I have tropical fish and we feed them every other day. Food produces algea in your tank as well. I use frozen grass shrimp to feed my fish. i break off a piece, put it in a cup of warm water to melt, then pour it into my tank. It works and iv'e had my fish for 5 1/2 years now

It all depends on there there age if they are babies two-three times a day only what they can eat in about 3 mins. If they are adult then once a day or even every other day is good, and still only what they can eat in 3 mins any left over food in the tank take it out. NEVER over feed! How I feed my 6 inch Oscar is once a day what he can eat in three mins then on Sunday I don't feed him at all so he can clean out his system

Feed them once a day, everything they can eat in five minutes....

Make sure not to much food gets to the bottom,,, feed them a little, make sure they eat it,, then another small ammount..and so on...

I feed mine once a day, but I feed them diferent food ... brine shrimp one day, mosquito larvae another day, freeze dried bloodworms the other and algae based flakes the next day....

This will balance their nutrition and keep their inmune system healthy...

If you feed them too much, they will produce too much waste and the ammonia will kill them...

Take care.... and wish you healthy fish!!
