and the other parent is unknown.When my daughter died and the baby was 5 months old I went to get him SSI so he would have money saved when he turned 18 but SSI people said she never worked and paid in.I told them she was only 15 her life was cut short( murdered).

Yes, they are correct. Technically the child would collect any social security that the parent would have been entitled to when she became eligible for social security had she worked. Unfortunately, since your daughter was so young she didn't have any social security "credits" available for you to collect for her son. I am sorry to hear about your daughter's death.

I am so sorry to hear about your daughter, you are very good to give up your life to look after the baby as i know this is hard work. My daughter has left me with her daughter as she prefers a life with drugs.... Something should be done for the babies and some kind of funding for them. Your case is different from mine. i really hope you can get some help some where Very good Question and thumbs up for you

My son's father didn't work enough for my son to collect either. It's not only about the parent dying, but how much the deceased parent put into Social Security.

that's the rule.if the deceased parent never put in the pot,there is nothing to take out of the pot.my daughter's children's dad worked all his life but his jobs were cash jobs off the books,when he passed last year my daughter couldn't get a dime.
