Can anyone remember when firework night was one night nov 5th? Nowadays there are fireworks being let off all through october to december. I think fireworks should only be sold 2 days before and none after. It used to be a treat, when I was a kid now its not the same.Whats even worse is having my dogs cowering permanently for two whole months. Maybe they should make people apply for a free licence to have them on any other night than nov 5th?

TOTALLY AGREE!!!!
We had a gang of children aged from 10 to 15 running around with massive fireworks setting them off sideways into cars and fences and across a main road.
I live in a nice area but have a small patch of grass out the front of my house which is used by the kids passing through the neighbourhood. There are two very large parks nearby but the children where looking for trouble not fun!!! We had fireworks going off until 1am the other night and the police do nothing.
Firstly where do they buy them from? Where are the parents? When did it become legal to sell large explosives to anyone who has money? I wonder how busy A&E are in the months of October & November with firework injures?
A Licence would be a great idea, the strange thing is there are so many good displays around the country to go to which are safe and priced reasonable i wonder why people buy the crappy small ones to set off in their gardens anyway - store bought ones are alway disapointing to watch and if handed wrong very dangerous.

Think about how it is for me living in Spain, the Spanish have fiesta's all through the Summer, they do fireworks all through Summer, and then during October and November sometimes, its how the Spanish Celebrate, so, I never really want to do anything on November 5th anymore. The fireworks are beautiful here though, but I totally agree with you, in the UK its not the same anymore is it, but if they sold them just 2 days before Nov 5th there would be some huge que's for them wouldn't there, and it would take the fun out of letting them off, as many would stop buying them as they probably wouldn't want to spend the time queing would they? mind it might not be a bad thing, as it would be only the serious ones that would que.

Totally agree with u. My dog hates the sound of fireworks etc. Last night they were going off everywhere and i have to put loud music on all over the house to try and drown out the banging noises. She gets so scared. Problem is, as u say, its not just 1 or 2 days its from now right thru to new year's eve. If i had some warning then i could have the music on for her but unfortunately the bangs start first so she lets it to try and hide.

In my country (phil.) you can hear fireworks around September til the end of the new year, it's a sign for Christmas is coming although there are some do fireworks for religious celebration. And it's the busiest time for the hospitals, cause there are people been accident with the fireworks, lose their fingers, and been hit by a flying fireworks.... I like fireworks, as long as they are used in the right time and right place.

A campaign against fireworks was started a few years ago, the RSPCA was involved because of related animal cruelty, they tried to ban fireworks on any days except new year and bonfire night. Thing is so many people have them now for birthdays etc. I think its all a waste of money, I wish I could have a reduction in my council tax instead of the local council spending thousands on firework displays in local parks, pointless.

What about all the fun!?! People will want to have a bang of a time (pardon the pun) on any given celebration.
While the concept of fireworks grew over time it wasn't strictly related to Nov 5th - Guy Fawkes Day. On this day he was burnt to death for his punishment so on this day the actual tradition which is still in practice is to burn some wooden replica of him.
While I agree with you about the selling of fireworks (bugs me when I want to go to sleep at regular nights), I do not want to spoil the fun of others.
We could possibly *try* to enforce that fireworks can only be used on days of celebration. Enforcing this maybe hard as you would have to look for the originating household of fireworks during a busy night...

I must be living under a rock because I have never heard of anything like that, and I have lived in several areas of the country.
The only time I have ever heard or seen fireworks is July 4th. I've seen them on New Year's Eve in the movies though but never in real life.

Where I live in London a lot of people like to have fireworks for Diwali the Hindu festival of light so you can't stop them having this. Otherwise I do agree that thugs letting off fireworks at midnight on a school night is very annoying and anti-social. Asbo's for the lot of them I say.

Never mind licensing, people will find a way round. The government should just go up to people in the street and ask them if they like fireworks. If people say 'yes' then they should kill them and make them into sausages to feed to the poor.
