Don't take candy from strangers is one of those "mother" sayings that really doesn't mean anything.

But if it did, Halloween is the one occassion that that "doctrine" is suspended.

And besides, -you don't HAVE to do anything. ... Give the kids a rock.

Aw come on, it was Halloween ! It's what kids have done for years, and the 2 kids did have a parent with them. If you felt so strongly about it, all you had to do was say "Sorry, have'nt got any sweets left, but happy Halloween". I take it you have'nt got any kids, but that still does'nt give you the right to call kids "little brats".Were you born an adult? I love seeing the kids in their costumes and always give money out, which is the custom in England. If you don't want disturbing, put a note on your door. I hope you don't get carol singers at Christmas, Ebeneezer !

Not sure. It is kind of strange that they spend their lifetimes teaching their children not to take sweets from strangers and then encourage them to do it once a year. It's not so bad if the parents are with them but still risky.

In our area now, unless your house is decorated or you have put a lantern outside, they know not to bother you.

Lucky for us we were not disturbed at all last night.

And as for the children who ask for money rather than sweets, don't even get me started!

Whatever happened to having fun
Why are so many people miserable. We only go to houses that have pumpkins and decorations in the windows.Wheres the harm.So long as there is a responsible adult with them-What does it matter.
Should we ban Carol singers too
Or how about Johovahs Witnesses. ?????

Kids love Halloween and as a mum to 3 girls I'd rather have happy kids than think about what pi*ses off other people.

It's tradition and I don't see what's wrong with giving kids some sweets on Halloween.
And it wasn't as though the parents had sent the kids out on their own.

Let them enjoy it.

She was with the kids wasn't she?

We used to do it all the time, but only with the neighbours in our road.

You found that the most grumpy ones gave most generously. It didn't have to be sweets, it can be money too.

Don't worry about what anyone else has to say on this topic. Personally I don't give sweets to kids that I do not know.

You dont have to give them anything. You can say 'trick' or better still - dont open the door on Halloween night.
