I think the music companies and / or the media are trying to demonize their own customers.

In legal terms, what has murder and robbery on the high seas (ie Piracy) got to do with copyright infringement?

I think a high court judge would agree that someone found guilty of downloading copyrighted material from the internet would get in trouble for copyright infrindgement... but not theft.

Watch out the little © will report you to record compnies for being a pirate ! Eye Eye me harties...

You know, the next thing is they're going to implant a chip in our heads, so every time you listen to a song, a fee will be automatically deducted from your Bank-account. Go figure, personally I think they're getting away with murder.I miss those Vinyl days.

Not everyone comprehends "copyright infringement". A lot of Americans are a little fuzzy on whether they really like the idea of "property rights" to begin with (since they agree with taxes and Eminent Domain and Universal Health Care and Minimum Wages), and everyone either plagiarized/copied someone else's work or knew and tolerated someone who did to get through High School.

The whole concept of "intellectual property" is totally alien to most people.

Everyone knows what a Pirate is.

It may be hilarious, but talking about pirates and stealing sounds more shocking than using the words 'copyright infringement'.
