In my humble personal experience: yes. haha.

I've been this way my whole life. To be sensitive and intelligent(many definitions of what intelligence is, same for sensitive), is to be very intuitive, very in tune with the energies of other people and life. They're not so hardened or cut off from their emotions.

I know many ppl who never show emotions. So much is pushed down inside. They appear very much in control and "tough" but it's just they are cut off from their heart. They feel like everyone else but it's only a surface level feeling.

Generally speaking, the sensitive and intelligent ppl will experience depressing emotions more. It comes from being more open and having less mental barriers and armoring over the heart. I fought with depression and much negativity in my life, but really, I wouldn't trade all that for nothing.

With sensitivity the walls are lowered so all feelings will be there, including the good ones. The good n bad are there and they are free to come and go, intuitions and insights arise, love is known and felt: less walls equals more beauty. even the depressing emotions can be beautiful if the resistance is gone to it. Sadness hurts but it gives us depth, pain gives us compassion of others pain, etc.

You know, I really think the answer to this is yes. Why? Because sensitive, intelligent people are really intuitive and sometimes they are so intuitive they don't know how to react to it therefore trying to hide it or change to be more like the people around them who do not always fall so deep into thought. It's hard for an intelligent person to take everything in that they do take in at the rate that info flies at them and with being sensitive on top of that..well, there's a lot of confusion that comes into play there. I think the depression stems from them not feeling confident in all they abilities they hold because the people they are surrounded with do not always possess the same abilities, thus leading to the feeling that they are a misfit.

OMG this has to be a yes. for my part a definite yes. Linty hit the nail right on. Barriers...that's the problem...one learns to build barriers. i think there has to be stages to it. when you are young you learn early on that you have to learn to protect yourself because people don't act like you...some have the power to hurt you more than you would want them to...so you learn to shut them off and the emotions that come with them...then as you grow older, you become wiser and you learn that the emotions are there for a reason...you try to open yourself a bit...be hurt a bit...but always cautious...sometimes you allow yourself to feel fully the emotion and sometimes you just quit and put the barriers so way high up. your question would take a whole essay to get it answered and more i suppose. but i think generally yes. especially if the sensitive and intelligent people that you are talking about is also an idealist.

Yes,because a sensitive person usually picks up more impressions on the world, seeing more things than a normal person does;there for, there's a lot more that can hurt them.Sensitive people tend to be more detail oriented and some of them even react to other people's hidden feelings,so,it's easy for them to feel a little bit "overwhelmed"by life. But I think intelligence has nothing to do with this-intelligence is a quality of the mind, not a heart business...

I think so yes, simple minded people do not take things so seriously and try to analyze situations and issues and that's why they're less prone to depression. More sensitive and smarter people take issues to deeper levels trying to figure out the reasons behind everything and as there is not always reasons they tend to get depressed.

Yes I think that is true. If you see the human suffering in this life and ignore
it then you don't have to deal with it. If you see the suffering and share the
pain then it hurts. Sensitive people also get asked to listen to problems,
because they are good listeners.
