My friend lost her sense of smell due to a head injury, she can't taste anything. There actually is a medical term for this but I can't remember what it is. She has gained alot of weight since her injury. She's constantly eating just TRYING to taste something and of course NOTHING satisfies her, hence, the weight gain. If you or someone you know can't smell, be sure and warn them about having smoke detectors in their home and that the batteries are good. It's vital, since the smoke won't be smelled.

I lost my sense of smell some years ago but I still have a basic ability to taste as the taste buds in my tongue still work so I still enjoy my food.

my husband has no sense of smell or taste. the 2 go hand in hand. he had a nasal polypse operation many years ago, and the nerve got damaged cause back then, they clipped off the polypse isntead of the laser operations they do today, his polypse returned last year, he had it done by laser treatment, much more gentle, and they told him they could revive the nerve which had been damaged. on some days he gets whiffs of a smell, other days he gets some form of taste, but generally, aint nothing going on but the rent...

They wouldn't be able to taste anything, unless they remember what it tastes like and imagined it, because much of your sense of taste is just smelling.

Taste and smell together are responsible for flavour of whatever you eat. If you can not smell flavour will not be percieved correctly hence the difference in the taste when you have cold.

The taste buds are different from smell buds so taste wont get affected. Sweet wont become sour :)

Everything becomes tasteless,as the smell is what make us buy certain foods.
It's not only foods, but drinks as well.If i couldn't taste my cuppa, would it be worth me making it in the first place.
