Overlook the whole killing of the jews and Hitler was one of the greatest leaders the world has ever seen. He united a country in a way that G.W.Bush could only dream of.

Hitler may have united Germany but he did it for all the wrong reasons.

There is no way on this planet he can be seen as a good person

I'd have to disagree because he only was able to accomplish things through force, propaganda, terrorizing people and murdering anyone who disagreed with him who he found to be of any threat.

It's really somewhat debatable that he "united" the country since you'd be relying mostly on data recorded by the Nazi party itself. Most people didn't care much about him either way and were not the fanatics that you see in the propaganda reels. Then again, you don't really have much of a choice than to go along with things once your living under a dictatorship.

Everyone knows he rose to power because he told people what they wanted to hear in a time of crisis. Anyone willing to lie can do that, Bush did, and it doesn't make someone a great leader. If it wasn't him than it would have been someone else. The main thing that sets him apart from the hundreds of other slimy world leaders is that he took part in the extermination of millions of people. Even that he wouldn't have been able to do without Himmler. He killed Jews and America cares about Jews. (not that that's a bad thing but the US seems to sometimes care a bit more about them than other people) That's why we remember him, why we learned about him in school and why you even thought to post this question in the first place. If you overlook the "whole killing of the Jews" thing he achieved nothing but destroying his country.

The US has laws preventing someone from attaining the position of an absolute ruler. I'm not saying that it couldn't be done but GW Bush would have a much more difficult time becoming a true dictator here, in 2006, than he would have had in post WWI Germany. It's more that Hitler had great timing, not that he was a great leader.

Everywhere you go there's always people who think they're being edgy or intellectual by dragging out that dead horse about how we "have to admit" that Hitler was great genius, etc.. They're usually the same people that bring up Charles Manson or Jim Jones at parties.

well there are too good arguments for this question and it is a good one too.

On one hand he did unite his country. He would die to protect his country. He pulled his country out of a great debt it had with the 'great powers' after world war one. He did quite alot for his country.

But there was a downside to his greatness. i know you said forget about the killings but it too huge not too. I know it is totally wrong what he did he killed more people than i can think of and not in the best ways either.

But also he did this for a race called the ariens, these are the fair people of the world the people that had the blonde hair blue eyes and fair skin. These in his mind were the ultimate people. i beleived he hated himself for not being one. In his mind he only saw the jews appearence, they did not have the same appearance as the arien did and he saw that the jews and ariens were together mixing and he beleived that the jews were contaminating his arien race. i know that this sounds bad but you do not know how it was from his veiw. Take for instance the fact that japan is still now just becoming westernised because they rejected the westerners in the first place because they were different they had a different culture. It is the same Hitlar beleived in his mind that he was protecting the ariens by killing the jews. i do not think he was a good person for what he did but i respect what he did it for.

One...he "united" the counrty through the use of terror tactics and systematic homicide. In fact....I wouldn't even say "unite". Its more like "everyone do it or else". Two; he came to being because of the collaspe of the political and financial structure of the country, using an army of thugs to do so.
Three; Overlooking the murder of 6,000,000 is not an option.

Your question is asinine and juvenile. Hitler and "good person" are words that cannot be used in the same sentence. Go out in public and make a statement like this and you'll be tarred and feathered.

A more logical question would have been "Did Hitler have any positive attributes or abilities?"

There probably isn't one single person on the face of the earth who doesn't have some sort of positive attribute or ability. But neither qualify someone as being a "good" person, which Hitler was NOT. He murdered millions of people, not just Jews but other people as well.

Not that I'm saying he was a good guy or anything..

Well The US did send economic advisors to Germany to find out how he brought his country out of the great depression * and many other countries did as well. *

True he did it because he was making weapons secretly.
He just happened to come in at the right time to be taken in.

He brought forth vehicles like the Volkswagon * if you drive it you must be a member of the nation socialist workers party right? *
people forget that fact.. and drive Bugs like nothing.

His road design in Germany was a unique grid allowing for take off and landing of planes nearly anywhere.

And his medical research *although debatable methods * was many things modern day scientists can't do * human experiements *

As for the trauma the person spoke of above.. he was a SOLDIER in WW1, and he was a trenchrunner, and exposed to mustard gas... fun fun.. maybe thats why he was abit insane..

I know you shouldn't answer a question with a question BUT how do you overlook the killing of 6 000 000 Jewish People. Hitler was definitely not a good person.

Hitler was evil. He united a country through hate and fear and would never have been able to unite the country through love and compasssion of fellow man. He was an evil tyrant

No matter if you take the killing of the Jews out, he was still a lunatic. He tried to start breding people so he could get the perfect race.

HE DID NOT unite a country. Killing a portion of your population because they are not of a chosen religion, race, etc. is not unification. HE controlled a people in a country.
