SD RAM will NOT work in your machine however if your are being offered it for free there are plenty of older machines out there and if it's a large enough size (128Mb or preferably 256Mb) then there is a good chance of finding a slightly profitable home.

Just don't even try installing it, I knew someone who did and it cost them a new motherboard and that is a pricey proposition from Dell

Hi friend There is a huge diffrence between DDR RAM & SD RAM
As the name suggests.DDR means Dual Data Rate trnsfer and SD Means Single Data Transfer. If you have a look on both RAM's(if you are comfortable in removing out from E310).They look diffrent. And also after you installing new DDR RAM in dimension E310 hit F2 on dell logo and enter the system setup using the arrow keys scroll down to maintainence hit enter and hit enter on Event log on right side hit enter on clear log (you'll hear a beep ) on left hit enter on load defaults and hit enter on continue. (if you do not have floppy drive installed onleft go to top on drive hit enter and select Diskette Drive A on right side make it to off anf then hit esc to save and exit.

your mother board may be compatible for both and will have the slots if it is but only one will work at one time you cannot have both fitted at same time

stick with ddr. sd is older and slower

Definitely not. Spank is right, they won't even fit into the same slot. Of course, if they would, it would ruin both the memory, and the motherboard.
