I have a bathroom and kitchen off the hallway but can't smell anything there. I think it is a plumbing prob. Smells like strong laundry. I changed the trap behind my washing machine but hallway still smells. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem, pull up your carpet and have a look if your underlay is damp or wet.

Mine was a bathroom problem, but manifested itself in the hallway by a damp stink which I traced to my underlay. It was actually the shower over my bath that was spilling water out of the pipe, down the edge of the bath, which was then running along my tiled floor and out into the hallway!

All fixed now though!

My daughter had a smell in the middle of her downstairs family room recently. It turned out to be the drain from her washing machine and the water had channeled to the middle of her family room making the carpet smell.

It could be something that is trapped or died between the floor boards or the cavity of the wall, I would get it checked out.
