It is not an official war so it can never officially end. On the side of the terrorists there are none who can act as signatories to a peace treaty, and no clearly defined armies under control of a central government. It is a national army against an array of fanatic pathological killers who represent no country. You cannnot enter into any sort of negotiations with the likes of that.
This war will go on until one side or the other realizes that the economic cost is way too high and outweighs the advantages of continuing. That's the closest you can get to surrender. Bush is trying to find a way to call it something else, but unless the US is willing to begin massive bombardment of every single city in the Middle East to reduce them all to uninhabitable wastelands there may be no other option for the US except to just quit. It will be another Vietnam except this time the undefinable enemy has access to global communications and vast sums of money. The enemy will never quit. By fighting a guerilla war long enough they can bring the US to its knees and beyond that wipe out America as a viable political and social entity.

Good question. The end of this war will not be a large pitched battle where one side captures the others capitol. No, the end will be something symbolic like the Berlin wall coming down. At a certain point, nations that defend or offer safe haven for terrorists will start to see the light. If you want to be part of the 21st century, you will stamp out terrorists. This could however take many more years or even decades.

The Iraq war will be over once the country is stabilized and their government is able to establish control of the country. The war on terror will go on forever. We can only keep them at bay and do the best to protect ourselves. A stable Iraq with a working democracy would only help destabilize terror in the region.

When the Terrorist are all dead, and if you think it will be over before that, then you are wrong. The Terrorist are doing all the killing in Iraq, hoping to make Bush look bad, so we will vote for a Leader who will pull out our troops. They are not going to quit with 9-11 I hate to say it, but we haven't seen the last of those murdering bastards.

This War in Iraq is a much worse quagmire than Vietnam, Bush has a civil war going. It is going to end when Bush tucks his tail between his legs and runs. It would be too much for Bush to understand the mentality of these people, why does he think he is going to bring Democracy to a county when we don't have it in America.

when bush and republicans' out of power? Perhaps in this war we are like the mosquitoes in the mosquito net. We got in, feasted like there is no tomorrow, and then realized we knew not how or when to get out of the net.
