John Kerry is now suffering from hoof in mouth disease based on his recent statements.

"You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don't, you get stuck in Iraq."

Now Mr. Kerry claims this is a botched joke about Mr. Bush. I will give him the benefit of the doubt, but if something you say is completely misinterpreted by a group should you not only make your intentions known, but also apologize to the offended group for the misunderstanding? If so, then why is Mr. Kerry refusing an apology to the soldiers he insulted?

Kerry said the comment in question was "a botched joke about the president and the president's people, not about the troops ... and they know that's what I was talking about."

It reads to me like I have nothing to apologize for and if you can't understand that, well that's just too bad.

alphonso_ratcliffe_jr: Trying to absolve bad behavior by pointing to other bad bahavior is insufficient. Why is it that Democrats in general have so much trouble taking their own to task for their actions?

catcha22: So because Mr I voted for it before I voted against is not the President he can make whatever statements he wants about the troops with impunity?

For those who don't get this. I am not suggesting that Mr. Kerry apologize for comments he was trying to make about the President. However, I do feel he should apologize to the troops for the misunderstanding of those comments.

Anne: I am not a Republican, but thanks properly giving us yet another illustration of liberal hypocrisy. Liberals take Republicans to task for every word and deed, but just cannot fault their own.

martinamagrace: I reiterate once again. His intentions are not the question. I stated from the beginning that I would give him the benefit of the doubt in that area. Yes we have all made comments which were misinterpreted, or said something stupid. However if someone is untentionally insulted or misinterprets the statement made most of will apologize to that person or group. What is so difficult to understand here? No matter if his intention was to insult the president, he instead insulted the troops and owes them an apology for the mistake, not just an explanation.

catcha22: My position was plain without additional details. However, I was looking for responses and opinions from others. If you had a valid reason for why the man shouldn't have apologized you could have made your case. Instead you chose to ignore the question and attempted to make it a referedum on Mr. Bush.

Every politician, when makes a statement, which becomes controversial, denies having made such statement or tells that his words were misunderstood....This is not new...

After these remark, Kerry curtails campaigning for Democrats. A number of top Democrats said they were upset with the senator for giving the Republicans election-time ammunition -- even if the GOP was hyping the remark.

Yes, in view of these remarks, he should apologize to the troops and then quit from the post he is now holding.

Hoof in mouth is nothing new for Kerry. There's alot more he should apologize for.Yes he should make a public apology IN FRONT of the troops.Fact of the matter is his history shows he will either deny he said anything or say he was misunderstood.
This guy should leave politics forever and buy a house in the woods where we never have to hear from him again.Next time it comes up in an interview he'll just give some other lame excuse for what he said or simply say something completely to the contrary.
It seems everytime he says something that people don't like he's been "misunderstood".Maybe the guy should get a grip on the English language a bit.Take some communications classes.

Did any of you listen to Kerry last night on CNN? He explained very CLEARLY what happened and what he meant to say.

None of you have ever done that before? People laugh at Bush every day because of something stupid he said or the way he said it. Now Bush changes his mind (or whoever changes it for him) about "STAY THE COURSE". NOW we will "CHANGE THE COURSE".

The one thing about all of us that is the same is we are humans and we make mistakes. Give Kerry a break. If he meant to say what he did, he was calling himself stupid too, since he was in the service. Give that some thought.

John Kerry is trying to spin what he said. He can not do it. He insulted every man and woman in our armed services. He may as well have said you are all ignorant and stupid. Many liberals in the democratic party feel this way. This is how they treat the people who are responsible for making sure they have the right to open their mouths and stick in both feet. His arrogance shows every time he opens his mouth and the people in Mass. need to realize he is not making their state look good.

John Kerry should sit down and shut his political mouth. He was shown no one has confidence in him in the last election and nothing has changeed now. His carelessnesss in speaking before he thinks is an example of what kind of leader he is. Personally, I don't care if he appologizes or not. He has nothing of import to say at this point.

Kerry did not put our troops in harms way. He's been there himself. Has bush? bush should apologize to our troops.

(Amendment) After reading your responses to the responses you've received:
Sounds like you already had your answer in your mind when you "asked" your question. And as for "insulting" the troops, I would rather have them "insulted" any day right here right at home rather than killed over there. Pride, even false pride like your president belches, can always be repaired.

No. I think he was refering to draft reinstatement. Because if they ever do reinstate the draft, who do you think is going to be shipped off to war - poor uneducated people. During the vietnam days, some young men were hellbent on trying to get into college to avoid going to war.

ANY APOLOGY HE MIGHT GIVE WOULD BE INSINCERE,SO WHAT'S THE POINT. HE NEVER MENTIONED BUSH'S' NAME - ONLY IF YOU DON'T STUDY, YOU'LL END UP IN IRAQ---THAT WAS DIRECTED TOWARD THE SOLDIERS AND I DON'T CARE WHAT KERRY SAYS HE MEANT TO SAY............HE SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

John Kerry is a slob.
Bill Clinton is a slob.
Richard Nixon was a slob.
Ted Kennedy is a slob.
All slobs have no sense of common decency and think they are above all else .
Although, this is America they can say what they want.
