It depends on who the party is for. Kids? Adults?
Kids in the afternoon, 2-4 pm.
Adults in the evening, 7-10 pm.

2pm - 7pm. We hold family parties. We share a large supper together. Coming at 2 allows everyone time to mingle, relax or play games outside together. Them we eat and leaving by 7 or 8 gives those who come far a chance to get themselves and their kids home early.

Depends on the type of party - if it's for kids you need to have them all fed and watered before about 5pm so they have a chance to run off all that sugar.
If it's for adults - don't start much before 8. People need to get home from work and get themselves ready.
Party on dude!!

For my generation: after people have the chance to have come home from work, showered, welcomed the babysitter round and put their kids to bed.
