A bruise is just bleeding under the skin. Ice will shrink the blood vessels and hopefully help slow down the bleeding. See a doc if you are in a lot of pain or having trouble moving obviously. Hope you aren't too stiff and sore in a couple days . Poor you.

Arnica gel helps keep the bruising down.
To help it heal faster alternate between putting a cold compress or ice pack on it and then a hot compress (hot water bottle or something). The alternating hot and cold stimulates blood flow so brings the bruise on faster, meaning it goes away quicker.

Witch Hazel is always a good thing to help minimise bruising, though it really needs to be applied as soon as possible after an injury. It's very cheap and has a very distinctive smell. You can find it with the rubbing alcohol, purified water and stuff like that.

you can soak a towel with quite hot water and gently press it on the bruise. but if you want to get rid of it, rub and press the bruise, the harder the better. ( It may hurt and the bruise might get bigger but it is the number one way of getting rid of it!)

initially ice, 10 mins at a time. then try alternating hot and cold packs/compresses. Arnica in any form will help.
