Whoever has posted this question needs to get some facts right. First things first! Aish is NOT Bollywood's best box-office bet and NEVER EVER was even close to being one. There's a very wrong perception in Hollywood that Aishwarya is the biggest name in Bollywood. The truth of the matter is, she has managed to market herself very well to the "Bollywood Illiterate" Hollywood folks via some agent of hers who sits in LA and which is why she has been able to garner some attention by "MANAGING" to secure interviews with Oprah, Letterman etc...
Easily, the question could have been posted as "Why is Shah Rukh viewed as Bollywood's best box-office bet?"

I don't think she is the best bet because she has more flops than hits and that proves that her beauty doesn't seem to help her it all. At the end we all want to see a good actor or actress on tv and I really don't think that SRK or Kajol act better than Aishwarya, she has done some roles that kajol can't top: shabd, raincoat, shocker bali, devdas....wonderfull roles and even though SRK and kajol do well at box-offices I really don't think they are the best actors in India. I mean kajol couldn't convince me in FANAA but Aishwarya is a good actress and she will prove it again with movies such as: PROVOKED. Why she doesn't do well at the box-office is still a mistery to me. But I think that she is viewed as best box-office bet because she is strong and her performances do amaze people abroad.

That's a real mystery, this naughty hag without any talent has been given super duper flops of the year and has a long list of wannabe and imaginary Hollywood movies and a plethora of flop Bollywood DUDS but is still, according to some a best box office best! Indeed a miracle!

i don't think Aishwarya Rai is considered as a best bet in the box office firstly because when you take the number of movies bombed and hits, it is meaningless to talk she is very success full as an acter.she is riding on her goodwill with the Influential people around bollywood and with her international appeal because of her Miss world title.Most important she has the ability to keep most of the womanisers and news makers in bollywood in her kitty which is easly possible with a mere seductive look of this beauty(eg salman khan,vivek oberoi now sadly the bachan kid( poor guys waiting to get dumped)).so, gossips play a big role in her fame too rather than her skill as an actress.Coming to her artificial smiles have you ever seen a single photo of her with out a artificial touch on it...now watch out her face and teeth when you see her next pic..of course i do agree with you she is beautiful east Indian girl but certainly not the most beautiful girl in the world.Lets consider talking about preity zinta or Rani mukerjee if you are talking about the talent here lets take in to consideration the number of movies they acted and number of hits and their ability to act in diverse roles.
We can't judge an actress with a movie or two it is thier consistent performance and their ability to handle diverse characters makes her a good actress.Sadly Bollywood is ruled by money rather than talents.of course nothing fly above money these days.I'm open to discussions if anyone is a big fan of Aiswarya and has totally different view lets discuss a'm open to discussion but should give legitimate points for the relevent discussion.

Are you serious in asking such an irrelevant question? with all due respects to her immaculate beauty she is a cropper as far as the box office is concerned. Just for reference her last hit was back in 2002 and in more than 9 years in the industry has a total of 3 hits. rani mukerji is a much better bet at the box office and has achieved it inspite of being short, dark, and a hoarse voice to boot. sridevi, madhuri, kajol.....now thats what best box-office bet is about...among the women

Though I am not a big fan of Movie stars, I think it is easy to make a mark in the filmdom for those who are already beautiful and have some related background. Aishwarya is one of them.
And we always vote for beauty before anything. In my opinion the best actors should be nana patekar, SRK, om puri,kajol. They really had to fight it out to prove themseleves.

Because she is soooooo popular and is now known all over the world and because of that she can acept any role that she wants and demand almost any pay...and most likely any movie she is in will bring a lot of money to the box-office...which is kinda bad...but its mostly due to her appearance on 60 minutes..

i don't think so that she is best bet at all...not a single movie of hers do well at box office... its same story with all her movies...maybe she is beautiful and has got tremendous fan folowing.. but that doesn't seem to work at all...
whatever hits she has in her kitty... for that as well credit goes to directors like sanjay leela bhansali....
just observe the past record of her movies and then u will wonder that the question of "safest bet" is very amusing in its own way..

For actress,i think Aishwarya is not the best!KajoL is better than her.and actor,absolutely Sharukh Khan is the best!!
