In a story, if I wrote sounds in it like thump thump and someone was pounding on the door, would i write it in quotation marks? or how else?

Generally, it's best to put actual noises that aren't dialogue in italics (unfortunately, I can't demonstrate that for you on this web site). However, depending on what type of writing you're doing, you might want to avoid writing out "thump" alltogether and instead describe it. For example: "The hollow noise of his fist pounding against the door resonated loudly throughout the room."

But, hey...creative license - it's pretty much up to you. Good luck with your story!

onomatopoeia - no quotes. the word stands on its own as the sound. Rip, tear, thump, choo choo, wham, boom clank.
Any good novel will use onomatopoeia. Read far enough in to find an example of onomatopoeia and see the grammar used. No quotes.

Ok so you are an author. I think you should write it like this.

THUMP!THUMP!
