Depends upon the person. Have you tried simply asking those around you if they would be kind enough to give you some quiet time? Sometimes life really is that simple.
If those around you won't be quiet, couln't you find some place to be alone?

If my husband wants to watch something on TV that I don't I quite often decide to read, however he then starts trying to discuss the programme with me when I am quite blatantly not watching it! It's only a minor thing and I tell him I'm reading but it can be annoying!
I haven't read that book.

Because thats what people do. As soon as they see you reach for a book they chuckle and squabble, sing and shout, argue and laugh. They can't help it. But just think, if you didn't reach for that book, the world would be silent.

I agree isn't it annoying. I used to throw things at my sister... I don't recommend that though it was a pencil or pen. Don't don't about the other question.

Because they are your enemies. They want to deprive you of education. They are afraid you might learn something secretive by reading and they might get left behind.
Hence to distract you, they disturb you. Its sheer jealousy, I tell you. ;-)

reading shoutly so that others being aware that u are reading.
