I personally will not go softly into the night on this issue.
I will not tolerate having a microchip implanted into me for reasons of "national security" or identification. My reasoning is as follows:
1. They have not been tested long enough to know what the long term (20+ years) effects on humans would be.
2. It could create a huge black market, where people would be killed to steal their microchip and then re-sold to illegals and criminals.
3. In a "Free Country" we should never be forced to wear identification, completely unconstitutional
4. I would fear the far reaching hand of the government, doesn't seem any different to me than the Nazis in Germany, forcing Jews to sew Star of Davids on their clothing to be easily recognized.
Now, as for my voluntarily micro-chipping my darling daughter, I would have it done. Well, at least after they have had a few more human studies, that is. And the microchip has GPS. But, I would also inform her of this chip when she turns 18 and have it removed then too. This would be for her own protection and as her parent I have the right to do what I need to, to make sure she safely reaches adulthood.
But if the government demands it of me, no way. I am adult, already have a mommy & daddy, and don't need the people I pay to assume any more of the parenting role than they already have.

I believe that putting micro chips into peoples bodies is just wrong. Morally, ethically and spiritually, no matter what the reason. Even God gave us free will to do as we wished he didn't wire us up to monitor us so then why should we allow the government or anyone else to implant a foreign object into our bodies. Many people have contemplated that idea in fictional works and there could be dangerous side effects. As a decendent of Cain which we all are, each one of us has the capacity to kill another human being, that being the case how could we be sure that a malfunctioning computer chip couldn't unlock that part of our brains that we have made dormant and send someone on a rampage. There are just too many variables and not enough studies to make me even consider such an idea. The psychological make up of each person is different there is just no telling how this computer chip could drastically alter a person and their behaviors. A dedicated school teacher could turn into a child molester, a memeber of green peace could turn into a destroyer of rain forests. There are just too many unknowns and anyone saying that this micro chip is completely safe should look at all the medicines that have done permanent damage to people as well as killed quite a few. Those scientists also said that the benefits far exceeded the side effects obviously they were not the best judge of the safety of the medicine they made. Phen Phen which was created to help women loose weight which was only suppose to elevate the metaballism in order to burn the fat quicker. How many of those women ended up permanent damaged or dead? Absolutely not, micro chips in the brain, so that our egomaniacal government can use their power to force us into even more outrageous experiments later in life. I don't think so. As far as the benefits one person said that she would have it implanted in her child for their own sake. Well, if all children were implanted seriel killers of children would have to problems whatsoever with removing that chip even if it killed the child because that was the intent anyway. Things happen for a reason it is not for us to go against the natural order of things and play God. I have children and though I love them dearly I would not allow a micro chip to be implanted in them.

I think that if someone has a serious medical condition that may prevent them from speaking in an emergency, or someone with Alzheimer's who wanders opts to be chipped...that is a good thing. It would be great to have your medical history on a chip that could be scanned in an ER anywhere in the world so the team working on you would know best where to start.
Since this is still a free country I think that chipping should be voluntary.
I'd be dead against it if it were mandatory....to Big Brother for me.

I wouldn't mind it would help us find missing people and such.
Also if it was a bio-chip also we would know if we had a disease before even feeling the symptoms.
If you think about it the applications that it could be used for are endless.

I'm personally against the idea of micro-chipping individuals, especially if they are law-abiding citizens

Wouldn't bother me... as long are there were no physical side effects.
The only people to complain would be those with something to hide!
We are are already monitored on a daily basis anyway.... cash machines, street cameras, cctv etc.
Anything that reduces crime and terrorism can surely only be a good thing!
Interesting question BTW

I believe Homeland Security is pushing for this. If you don't scan, you'll have electrodes strapped to your genitals and then posed for a group photo with Pvt. England and friends.
