may be it ain't much like a myth to many people but here in this tiny lil town of mine this myth has a long history as people who 'd settled/worked/visited US at some phase of their lives they surely sound/seem/act/live in a better way than the rest of the flock here. So, my naive question was to the ones who r from an exotic back ground from some developing nation n now r working/staying in US, is US really tha' much of a better place to live one's life in?is the gawdy glossy image of US one gets through media is true? thanx in advance to the ones who reply.

Not from an exotic background, but I live in the US...

And the media hype is just that...hype. Yes, there are glitzy, gawdy, glossy places...just like most countries have..but the vast majority of the country is really pretty normal.

People work, sleep, raise their kids, pay their bills....not everyone drives an SUV, lives in a huge home with a bathroom the size of a foot ball field, eats out 5 nights a week, and parties like a rock star.

Mostly, we're pretty much like everyone else....

I think what I appreciate the most about living here..is I can do anything I want to, as long as it's legal and I'm qualified. The standard of living is good, and I'm not taxed completely into poverty (yet). Hard work and an education still pay off here.

My parents emigrated to the USA when I was 12 and I left as soon as I was allowed to (18) because I did not like the militarism, mass ignorance, religious bigotry, racism, and the widespread poverty. I have lived in many countries and most seem better off not necessarilly in $s but with better health services and education. I have lived in Australia 30 years and it is far better then America, affluent but with a more caring society and far less polluted.
