You can't politely dump someone. What you can do, however, is simply be too busy all the time. No time to hang out with this person, no time to go places with them.....sorry, gotta study / work / see my sick dying grandmother. You get the picture, and so will your frenemy, after a while.

You might want to invite them over for an outing and take them to a quite environment. Re cup some of the good deeds your partner has done. Then getting to later part of the evening, contrast them with detailed wicked things they have done to you.
Then politely tell them when you count the demerits they are not worth being your partners but they can always call for a visit.
On the other hand if their being around will cause you any painful memories, make it clear to them that you don't want to see them again.
The most vital point is to give them a genuine reason for the break, putting your interest first. Then wish them luck and off they fly away never to return and you lived happily ever after!

onli way polite enough and not hurting his/her feelings is by expressing what u feel abt them.. what u dun like abt them? juz say out.. like.. " there u go again.. big yet inmature.. i dun like u do that.. dun ever do that again.. " then juz laugh a little and dun bother abt them anymore.. jus walk off... they will change their attitude and wont feel hurt either..

honesty is the best policy, since he/she is a good friend, so you have to just tell him the truth, but if he/she is not good friend, then you have to just ignore him/her and go on for what you want to do .
