I would do it because I could ban religion, Make all these workshy people do something to help in the community, give hard working families a break for once, have fun taunting the tories at prime-ministers-questions, laugh at the BNP/SNP/Plaid cymru. in short I could put the world to rights or at least have some fun trying.

I have long believed that the last person that should be a politician is one who wants the job.
A system where the job is advertised, selected from applicants by interview, etc, paid to do the job on a commercial basis, with performance targets linked to that pay, and for a fixed term would probably suit the country much better than the current system.
On that basis I would choose people of the Alan Sugar, Richard Branson, Bill Gates ilk.... Somebody who would be motivated to do the country good and not themselves or their party,

It would have to be the Prime minister of the United Kingdom and I would choose Billy Connoly. He has an amazing insight into the human psyche, history, politics and philosophy. He would not suffer false patriotism, false praise and the pomposity of state. He would govern with common sense, compassion and above all, outstanding humour.
So even if his governing us turned everything to crap, we'd have a good laugh about it!

Well whoever it was, they'd have to be Prime Minister of the entire United Kingdom not just England!

Me,
I'd charge Tony Bliar for war crimes under international law, maybe ask the yanks if i could use a place in gitmo for a few decades.
And I'd make the NHS independent of government, hopeful they wouldn't feel like they're being pulled from pillar to post all the time.

The current head of the HSBC bank. It is extremely well run and stands out in the UK as an innovative organisation. The government would be much better run if he was in charge.

Jeremy Clarkson.
I think we're all tired of these smooth politicians who are so politically correct. I'm longing for a guy with real feelings. Even Margaret Thatcher had more character.
