Absolutely...babies may sleep 16-18 hours a day. Lucky you...my first child had colic and hardly slept at all...nine years later, she still doesn't sleep much.

Oh yes - that's what newborns do best! She doesn't have any knowledge of day and night and she just sleeps when she wants and is awake and eats when she wants. Eventually she will out grow this - probably around 2 months she will start getting her days and nights back to normal. And before too long she will be sleeping all night - my daughter is 3 months old and sleeps from 9:30pm to 7:45am - and that was on her own... I didn't make her do it that way.

You're just freaking out. Your body and your brain have been through so much and you are very overwehlmed and extremely tired. He sounds fine. Jaundice starts in their face and works its way down their body. I remember when my son was about 5 days old he was jaundiced and I took him to the doc and they say that the yellow color stopped at his belly and that meant that the jaundice was not that bad. I don't know where you live but, here in Boston it's supposed to be a beautiful, hot summer day tomorrow and the sunshine is really good for jaundice. Just let him lay in the sun -- not during the really peak hours but, sometime during the day for a while. It will probably help. Let him sleep as much as he wants. Feed him when he wakes up and let him sleep the rest of the time. Try to sleep whenever he sleeps. Don't worry. He'll be fine. Get some sleep.

Yes, it is! Newborns sleep as much as 14-16 hours a day. My daughter is 4 weeks old now. And she had..STILL has the same problem. Her nights and days are off, but she is slowly getting the hang of it. It's normal for your child, just give it some time.

That's what's normal. Most newborns will sleep all the time when they're not eating, which they tend to do every 2-3 hours.

Hi, that's exactly what newborns do! sleep, eat and ... you know need their diaper changed! perfectly normal. As for being up at odd hours, get use to it... once again, perfectly normal. You will be on your child's schedule for a little while, but it does even out.... eventually! Congradulations!
