I can't watch the NSPCC adverts, they uspset me so much when they talk about little kids being starved and beaten etc.
It makes you feel powerless, even if you are rich enough to donate loads of money to the NSPCC does it really do any good? Do they have any power? The fact is, in cases like these, there are usually social workers attached to the family's case who either ignore the abuse or are too incompetent to do anything about it - this was the case of an evil couple from Brigend who battered their baby daughter to death a few years ago. Social workers actually BELEIVED the parents when they kept claiming that the baby had "fallen over" and other lame excuses for her bruises and injuries. the result is that the little child died!
I feel the same about the RSPCA ads - poor old dog left outside in the rain, kittens in the bin etc. I don't have the money to donate much and it breaks my heart to see this sort of thing. My mum called the RSPCA about a neighbour's dog that was being left tethered outside in all winds and weathers with no shelter, and they didn't seem to do anything about it.
Sorry - totally off topic here I know, just felt like a rant!
