i perforated both my eardrums as a child and although the perforations healed,( but it does leave scar tissue ) i do still have a slight loss of hearing in both ears, if your son is not already in the care of an E.N.T. doctor, then i would advise that you get him referred to one as soon as possible, they will then do an audiogram which is a hearing test to determine what if any damage there is to his hearing, they will also do follow up checks at later dates to monitor the progress of his hearing.
good luck, and i hope all goes well for him.

You need to call an E.N.T. right away and schedule an appointment. There is a good chance that he will at the very least need some antibiotic ear drops to deal with infection as a result of the injury. Also, if it just heals by itself there will very likely be excess scar tissue left behind which could lead to perminent hearing impairments. Your pediatrician or family doctor will be able to recommend an Ear Nose and Throat specialist.

A perforated eardrum usually heals itself in a couple of weeks, depending on how big the hole is.
Holes caused by middle ear infections are very minute and heal in about 3 weeks. However there may be a very slight permanent loss to his hearing, but nothing that will make life difficult.

IN adults the answer would be NO but depending on how old your son is, There is scientific proof that regeneration of skin and even fingertips can occur in young children

It is due to that. Usually perforated eardrums repair them selves but see a specialist just in case.

Consult an ENT specialist at once,
If it is minor, it does heal itself
