one month ago I still only had 30% radiographical union however I could walk fine but underwent an exchange nailing with a bone graft. After having had this op my surgeon has limited the amount of weight I am allowed to put on this leg,but has added that this may not be the correct way to go as this is not an exact science,I underwent an earlier op 3 months ago to remove the lower horizontal screw in the first nail, after this op the surgeon said throw away your crutches and let pain be the guide of what you can and cannot do, can anyone comment or advise on these two very different opinons regarding the weight loading I can apply to my leg, do I limit the load as one doctor suggests or do I allow pain to determine how much Load I should apply?

Be in medical consultation anyway...
But once the major union has taken place, he is right, u can act freely - the pain will subside with time.

1. Bone graft
2. Stiff muscles (physiotherapy and normal bone excercises needed...

Was wondering why you have two doctors seeing you. You had probably a "locking Nail" surgery usually for comminuted(more than two pieces) fractures. When the lower horizontal screw was removed your doctor was trying to "dynamize" the situation, meaning, weight bearing will stimulate your bone to grow better. This is only my opinion-you should have a talk with your doctor who has a duty to explain to you what's going on.
