When you are ovulating you are at your most fertile so definately do not have unprotected sex because you are highly likely to conceive.
As for your pains some women experience discomfort others do not but you should go to your doctor and get checked out as your fallopians may be blocked making you susceptible to ectopic pregnancy or you may have cysts or infection which could be causing you pain.

Unfortunately ovulation is never the same for all women, it can happen at different times depending on your cycle. When you ovulate you release an egg into your reproductive system and you are more likely to become pregnant if you are having sex. I can only tell when I'm ovulating on the right hand side as I too get bad pains. The only thing I have found useful for this is paracetamol and a hot water bottle.

On average a woman will ovulate 14 days after the 1st day of her period.
This is when an egg is released. Therefore this is the time to have sex if you want to have a baby.
I get some months when ovulation is painful.
If your is really painful you should see a doctor, it could be that you have polycystic overies.

Ovulation is when the 1 egg you release each month "pops" out of your ovary.
Usually about 5 to 10 days after your period ends.
It is triggered, surprise surprise, by hormones. It is usual to feel some discomfort, but excessive pain I'm not sure. Are you sure your ovulating human single cell eggs and not ostrich ones???
(The rest of this answer is serious just that last bit is stupid BTW).

On the day I ovulate.. I know for sure.. I get a migraine, dizzy, slight stinging, burning around my pelvis on either side that the ovary is ovulating at the moment. and I get intense wild food cravings that day and extreme fatigue and sleepiness. I have to curl up in a ball, take ibuprofen, and have my chocolate handy for the next 24 hours. and heaven help whomever crosses my path that day.

my dr said that a lot of women do not feel ovulation. i can feel a slight pinching when it happens to me. if you are having severe pain, you should have it checked out. could be an ectopic pregnancy...maybe endometriosis. and speaking of...ovulation is the worst time to have unprotected sex if you want to avoid getting pregnant.

THE TIME DEPENDS ON YOUR NATURE. EVERYONE WAS BORN WITH HER TIME OF OVULATION. IT IS NOT THE PERIOD SHE IS SAFE TO HAVE SEX, REATHER IT IS THE PERIOD IN WHICH SHE CAN GET PREGNANT. IT IS NOT TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY ANY PAINS. YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WHICH IF NOT SOLVED IMMEDIATELY CAN GIVE YOU SERIOUS PROBLEM IN FUTURE. CONSULT A PHYSICIAN.
