Looks to me like you mean Caer Caradoc, a major Iron Age fort just north of Church Stretton. That is due southwest of The Wrekin, pretty close to 13 miles distant. The OS grid reference is SO 478 951 if you want to check it out on www.getamap.com

The Brecon Beacons .
(The Brecon Beacons (Welsh: Bannau Brycheiniog) are a mountain range located in the south-east of Wales. They form the nucleus of the Brecon Beacons National Park (Parc Cenedlaethol Bannau Brycheiniog), one of Wales's three National Parks.
Beacons are fires lit on hills or high places, used either as lighthouses for navigation at sea, or for signalling over land that enemy troops are approaching, and alerting the defence. In the latter form, beacons are an ancient form of optical telegraph and always used in relay leagues.
